About The Position

The Turnaround Planner is responsible for leading the development, coordination, and maintaining detailed work plans for turnaround events. The role ensures all work is properly scoped, sequenced, resourced, and scheduled to enable safe, efficient, and cost‑effective execution within the approved outage window. The Sarnia Manufacturing Centre consists of an 85,000 bpd Refinery and a Chemical Plant producing 100 kt/yr IPA. It comprises of six production areas across five control rooms. This role requires a significant amount of informal influence and stakeholder management. Large time commitment during planned turnarounds This role may be required to be a member of the site EOC roster, requiring on-call responsibilities On occasion this role may support other maintenance activities

Requirements

  • The candidate must have legal authorization to work in the Canada on a full-time basis
  • 5 or more years of related industry experience and/or Red Seal mechanical, engineering or technical certification
  • Strong knowledge of maintenance and turnaround planning principles
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, drawings, and technical documentation
  • Experience with scheduling and planning tools (e.g., Primavera P6, GSAP, Momentum)
  • Strong coordination and communication skills across multiple disciplines
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work effectively under schedule pressure

Responsibilities

  • Developing detailed, logic-driven work plans for approved turnaround scopes and associated decon and start up activities
  • Defining within the work plans, job steps, durations, labor hours, craft requirements, tools, equipment, and materials to execute the scope which also provides the inputs to the cost estimating and event scheduling activities
  • Coordinating and engaging with safety, engineering, operations, maintenance, inspection, and contractors in establishing the work plans
  • Ensuring the final work package content for each scope item is complete and accurate to enable safe and effective execution as per the planning standard
  • Supporting scope optimization work shops and participating in table top review activities
  • Supporting scope development, validation, and change control processes (WLR)
  • Linking work packages appropriately into the integrated turnaround schedule
  • Identifying critical path activities, work conflicts, and opportunity windows
  • Supporting risk reviews and readiness assessments
  • Identifying material, spare part, and rental equipment requirements and initiate their procurement as per sourcing procedures
  • Supporting pre-event material verifications
  • Managing planning deliverables within the event established milestones
  • Communicating planning progress through planning tracker and readiness reporting
  • Working with both onsite and TAS planners to develop TA plans and packages
  • During event execution, providing job pack clarification and/or technical support, and if required planning to emergent or discovered work
  • Continuous improvement of TA event planning for future turnarounds, through data capture of execution, participation in post-turnaround reviews, lessons learned sessions. As well as maintaining historical data for future planning, estimating, and job execution
