This position maintains athletic fields for various sports. The specialist operates a reel mower, tractor, power-spray unit, and skid steer loader. Other grounds equipment such as trimmers, edgers, and backpack and street blowers may also be used. The role involves applying fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides to turf areas, adhering to OSHA standards and other applicable federal and state regulations when working with hazardous chemicals, materials, and power equipment. Use of personal protective equipment is required. The specialist may drive utility vehicles to and from work sites and performs related responsibilities as required.

Requirements

• A high school diploma or equivalent.
• Two years of experience operating multi-gang reel mowers or related equipment in an athletic field or golf course environment.
• Knowledge of basic turf care principles of fertilization, aeration, mowing and pest control.
• A valid Georgia driver's license and an insurable driving record.
• A Category 24 Pesticide License or the ability to obtain one within six months.
• Some positions within this classification may require the ability to lift 50 pounds and to bend, stoop and twist.
