Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering (KIE) is hiring an entry-level Tunnel Ventilation Engineer for its Rail Transit Systems Group, based in the Raleigh, North Carolina office. The role supports senior and intermediate engineers in developing ventilation concepts and strategies using one-dimensional (1D) and/or computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation tools, determining tenability and life-safety requirements, and designing associated systems. Training and learning are central to the position, with the goal of building experience and enabling the engineer to perform tasks independently. The engineer supports analysis and design of ventilation, fire, and life-safety systems for transit and highway tunnels, industrial, commercial, and process facilities across North America. The role contributes to semi-complex and complex projects and works with multidisciplinary teams within Kiewit’s Infrastructure Design Department. Assignments may cover tunnels, transportation centers, transit maintenance facilities, parking structures, pump stations, bridges, airports, and oil and gas process facilities. The position may also support design and construction activities, commissioning, and business development and proposal efforts. The position requires a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a similar field, an understanding of fluid flow and thermodynamics, and FE credentials with progress toward PE status. Knowledge of current tunnel ventilation and fire-safety regulations is beneficial but not essential.
