Under general supervision, this role collects and retrieves data using a computerized cancer registry system. The Tumor Registrar is responsible for case finding, abstracting, and follow-up of malignant diseases diagnosed and treated at the medical center. This involves reading and interpreting medical information from patient records, coding topography and morphology of cancer cases, and abstracting data for entry into the cancer registry system. The position also involves assisting and collaborating with clinicians, epidemiologists, and researchers on cancer-related studies, indicating the strengths and limitations of cancer registry data, and providing guidance on its appropriate use.
