The purpose of the Tufting Supervisor is to facilitate and manage the efficient operations of a shift in the Tufting Department ensuring adherence to safety, quality, cost, and production standards. This position requires a seasoned knowledge of the Tufting area and equipment. It involves contact with plant maintenance and technical staff. The supervisor schedules work assignments of operating personnel for optimum utilization of manpower, material, and equipment, and assigns operating work within sections, acting as a liaison between represented personnel and management. They ensure materials and supplies are delivered to work areas as needed, request needed equipment repairs, and perform or delegate "on the job training" of personnel to assure adherence to established operating procedures and company policy. The role involves appraising staff performance, recommending promotion, termination, and disciplinary action, and encouraging good housekeeping practices by providing needed supplies, storage areas, and receptacles. The supervisor also recommends improvements in techniques, procedures, and equipment, and implements them as approved. They periodically review personnel requirements for assigned sections and review costs of operation with the objective of meeting production commitments at minimum cost. Active promotion of job safety and effective communication of the status of operations to other Shift Supervisors and Management are key. Any problems occurring during their shift must be noted, and quality testing as required is supervised. The role involves coordinating workflow and establishing production schedules that meet production goals.
