About The Position

Under the supervision of the Tuberculosis (TB) Section Director, this role is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating tuberculosis services within a large multi-county public health region. The position provides leadership, oversight, and direction through collaboration and coordination with the regional TB team, health region, Central Office, and community/external providers. This role requires access to specific systems like SCION, CARES, and EHR for data analysis, diagnosis and treatment verification, and chart auditing.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and related nursing experience.
  • Must hold an active South Carolina nursing license in good standing, or a valid multistate license in good standing from a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) participating state.
  • Must obtain CPR certification within the first six (6) months and as required thereafter.

Nice To Haves

  • Current license as a registered nurse by the SC Board of Nursing.
  • A bachelor of science degree in nursing with at least five (5) years of experience as a registered nurse.
  • Three (3) of which must have been in a nursing specialty, in public health, or in a supervisory/management role.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, directs, and evaluates regional TB services to ensure high-quality care and service delivery.
  • Implements agency and program policies and standing orders within the region, and communicates needs for policy development/revision.
  • Ensures implementation and achievement of grant-required activities.
  • Establishes and maintains effective communication channels internally and externally.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable laws and regulations by staff.
  • Schedules and leads regional TB staff meetings for problem-solving and planning.
  • Attends TB Unit Manager meetings.
  • Participates in the recruitment, selection, and retention of TB staff.
  • Manages and approves staff work time and leave requests.
  • Provides performance evaluations for direct report staff and serves as a credentialed reviewer for non-direct reports.
  • Monitors and maintains regional contracts for services.
  • Assesses and evaluates TB services across the region using data resources and produces reports.
  • Communicates findings and collaborates with leadership to develop corrective action plans.
  • Monitors and evaluates Performance Improvement activities for TB services in conjunction with Quality Improvement Director and TB Program Evaluator.
  • Conducts periodic chart reviews/audits to evaluate documentation and adherence to policies.
  • Identifies continuing education needs for TB staff and coordinates training.
  • Utilizes agency and program orientation plans for staff.
  • Arranges clinical and field orientation for new TB nurses and other disciplines.
  • Coordinates EHR training and updates for staff.
  • Serves as the regional program point of contact for the EHR.
  • Assists with agency shelter operations.
  • Maintains supportive nursing practice competencies, including injection administration, oral medication administration, and emergency response (First Aid, CPR, AED).
  • Willing and available to assist during public health emergency response.
  • Serves on the regional shelter team and coordinates activities.
  • Works with regional leadership during emergencies to coordinate programmatic staffing.
  • Ensures TB cases on isolation have appropriate shelter if indicated.
  • Ensures staff have communicated with the TB caseload regarding medications and response activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
