About The Position

The Lead Tuberculosis & Respiratory Disease Consultant provides senior-level clinical leadership and subject matter expertise to Maine CDC’s Infectious Disease Epidemiology (ID Epi) program. This role supports tuberculosis (TB) program operations while also providing consultation across key respiratory disease initiatives, including influenza, COVID-19, measles, and Long COVID. This consultant serves as a clinical advisor, program leader, and liaison across local, state, regional, and national public health partners. The position is responsible for guiding TB strategy, supporting outbreak preparedness, and enhancing surveillance and response efforts across respiratory diseases.

Requirements

  • Medical degree (MD or DO)
  • Minimum 3 years of clinical experience in Maine
  • 3–5 years of public health experience, ideally in respiratory or infectious diseases
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, including team coordination or supervision
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote environment
  • Knowledge of: Epidemiology, public health surveillance, and outbreak response
  • Knowledge of: Infectious disease transmission and prevention
  • Knowledge of: Data collection, management, and statistical analysis
  • Knowledge of: Medical terminology and clinical practices
  • Ability to analyze and interpret public health data
  • Ability to lead meetings and facilitate cross-functional collaboration
  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities in a dynamic public health environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders
  • Ability to represent Maine CDC at regional and national levels
  • Ability to foster a respectful, inclusive, and professional workplace

Responsibilities

  • Serve as medical consultant for Maine’s TB program
  • Lead and facilitate quarterly TB consultant meetings (agenda development, coordination, engagement)
  • Provide clinical guidance on TB case reviews, surveillance, reporting, and outreach
  • Act as medical liaison between Maine CDC and external partners (e.g., Rutgers)
  • Support formulary decisions and treatment guidance
  • Develop and maintain Maine-specific TB policies and protocols
  • Stay current on TB research, treatment, and guidelines and disseminate updates
  • Collaborate with TB clinics, public health nursing, and regional partners
  • Provide clinical support across influenza, COVID-19, measles, and Long COVID initiatives
  • Support Long COVID surveillance, education, and national/regional representation
  • Lead coordination of public health preparedness exercises, including: Measles annex planning and tabletop exercises, Pandemic influenza (Pan Flu) response exercises and after-action follow-up
  • Support Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) across respiratory disease programs
  • Contribute to ID Epi program planning, evaluation, and outbreak response efforts
  • Engage in public health surveillance, data analysis, and reporting
  • Collaborate with local, state, and federal partners
  • Provide public-facing presentations and clinical education
  • Support EDN notifications and provider reporting processes
  • Participate in national trainings and professional development activities
