About The Position

The Trust Employee Benefits Officer is responsible for the administration and oversight of employee benefit trust accounts in accordance with governing documents, applicable regulations, and fiduciary standards. This role ensures that retirement plans and benefit trusts are administered accurately, compliant and in alignment with client objectives while maintaining strong relationships with plan sponsors advisors, and internal partners.

Requirements

  • Deep understanding of ERISA, Department of Labor, and IRS regulations regarding employee benefit plans.
  • 2-4 years of experience in 401(K) plan administration, trust administration, or retirement services required.
  • Solid understanding of qualified retirement plans, trust accounting, and ERISA compliance.
  • Familiarity with retirement plan platforms (e.g., Relius, Ascensus, FIS, EPIC, etc.)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/reporting tools.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree (B.B.A.) in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Law Degree, or related field preferred.
  • Professional certifications preferred but not required: Certified Trust and Financial Advisor (CTFA), Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS), or other similar designations.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with Plan Sponsors on a regular basis to develop and maintain positive relationships.
  • Prospect and develop new business opportunities with both existing and prospective clients.
  • Conduct annual enrollment and education meetings with plan participants.
  • Assist with annual compliance processes such as nondiscrimination testing, Form 5500 preparation, and required disclosures.
  • Monitor and maintain plan documentation and ensure compliance with ERISA, IRS, and DOL (Department of Labor) regulations.
  • Respond to inquiries from clients and internal teams regarding plan activity, trust balances, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in audits and ensure timely response to audit requests.
  • Ensure Plan reporting deadlines are met regarding Safe Harbor Fee Disclosure notices.
  • Coordinate with Plan Sponsor to distribute terminated employee balances to ensure proper headcount and determine if an audit of the Plan is required (over 100 employees)
  • Review mandatory Plan audit requirements.
  • Attend Trust Committee meetings.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with bank officers and legal and accounting professionals.
  • Project and maintain the Bank’s professional image.
  • Maintain a current knowledge of ERISA laws and regulations.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive client and participant data.
  • Assume responsibility for related duties as required and assigned.
