About The Position

The Terminal Manager will be responsible for managing all aspects of plant specific outbound freight including a fleet of 20-25 dedicated trucks, hostling, personnel and outside transportation supplier relationships. The Terminal Manager is also responsible for leading safe operations while delivering high service/quality and financial performance of the terminal. The terminal manager may be responsible for the maintenance shop as well. The Terminal Manager will interact with all levels of the plant to collaboratively develop opportunities to improve freight expenses.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, transportation, or related field preferred.
  • At least 5+ years’ experience in the transportation industry or a related field, some of which in a people management role.
  • Knowledge of transportation operations and laws, federal safety regulations and maintenance requirements.
  • Must have strong communication, leadership, interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of safe maintenance and DOT, OSHA, and other applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Experience with Fleet Management software including Samsara, TMT, and TMW dispatch systems.
  • Understand P&L statements and analyze areas for production improvement.

  • National Private Truck Council - Certified Transportation Professional (CTP).

Responsibilities

  • Strategically manages terminal from long-term perspective while managing the day-to-day operational activities; developing competitive rates; developing and analyzing operating reports, financial statements.
  • Responsible for safety financial performance, process improvement, housekeeping, and on time delivery.
  • Follows-up and coaches’ drivers in a timely manner on all harsh safety events.
  • Identifies high risk behaviors and acts quickly and decisively.
  • Works with the plant to generate a daily load plan that effectively meets customer needs while optimizing the fleets efficiency.
  • Administers proper application of all employee policies.
  • Manages recruiting, hiring. training and developing qualified drivers.
  • Develops and maintains existing customer bases.
  • Provides optimal customer service.
  • Establishes and reviews procedures for operational effectiveness.
  • Work collaboratively with other department staff members such as Customer Service, Sales, Plant Management Team to improve freight spend by identifying opportunities to improve fleet efficiency.
  • Ensures equipment is properly maintained for operational effectiveness and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensures drivers and maintenance employees work safely and within regulatory compliance.
  • Maintains all fleet records and work orders by overseeing and managing the company's fleet software system.
