About The Position

The Truck Shop Supervisor oversees daily operations of the truck maintenance facility, ensuring all repairs, inspections, and maintenance activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company and regulatory standards. This role provides hands-on leadership to technicians, manages workflow and productivity, supports continuous improvement efforts, and helps maintain a high standard of equipment reliability to support fleet operations and customers.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of experience in truck maintenance or related heavy-duty equipment repair.
  • 1–3 years of leadership/supervisory experience.
  • Strong understanding of truck systems (engine, transmission, drivetrain, electrical, brake, suspension, HVAC, etc.).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and repair documents.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Formal technical training or certification (ASE T-Series/A-Series, welding certifications, etc.).
  • Experience with fleet maintenance software.
  • CDL (Class A).

Responsibilities

  • Plan, schedule, and prioritize truck repair and maintenance work to meet operational needs.
  • Ensure shop throughput and productivity targets are met or exceeded.
  • Oversee compliance with DOT, OSHA, and company maintenance standards.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment.
  • Coordinate with Parts Manager to maintain proper inventory levels.
  • Monitor incoming trucks against scheduled appointment times and address delays beyond acceptable arrival windows.
  • Supervise, coach, and mentor truck technicians, apprentices, and support staff.
  • Assign work orders and monitor the quality and efficiency of repairs.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and support technician development/training.
  • Manage timekeeping, attendance, and workload balancing.
  • Provide guidance to technicians.
  • Review, verify, and close work orders with complete and accurate documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with preventive maintenance schedules and regulatory requirements.
  • Support root-cause analysis of recurring equipment problems and implementing corrective actions.
  • Enforce all safety protocols and lead weekly toolbox meetings.
  • Investigate safety incidents or equipment failures and implement preventive measures.
  • Champion a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor shop KPIs such as labor hours, productivity, comeback rates, and downtime.
  • Ensure completed job invoices are entered into Fleetrock in a timely manner, with no invoice sitting more than 2 business days after job completion.
  • Review the daily time & attendance report and correct mechanic time card issues (missed punches, wrong job codes, etc.).
  • Review and approve payroll in ADP for all shop employees.
  • Assist with budget planning, cost control, and vendor management.
  • Communicate with Fleet Managers, Operations, Drivers, and Customers regarding equipment status and priority repairs.
  • Provide quotes for outside customer repair requests in a timely manner.
  • Ensure accurate data entry in maintenance software.
