About The Position

AMPI owns six Midwest-based manufacturing plants where 10 percent of the nation’s American-type cheese and processed cheese is produced. The cooperative’s award-winning cheese and powdered dairy products are marketed to foodservice, retail and food ingredient customers. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
  • Must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement.
  • Minimum 2 years job related experience.
  • 1 year experience operating tractor trailer hauling liquid.
  • Must possess a valid Class A Commercial Drivers’ License with tanker endorsement.
  • Meet medical standards of the Iowa Department of Transportation.
  • Must have an acceptable motor vehicle record.

Nice To Haves

  • Diesel Mechanic Associates Degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs repairs on company owned vehicles and equipment, including brakes, engines, electrical systems, hydraulics, transmissions, ignitions, air and exhaust systems and axle assemblies.
  • Diagnose failures of equipment, disassemble, repair, and reassemble parts as needed by locating sources of problems, observing mechanical devices in operation and listening for problems while using precision measuring and testing instruments.
  • Removes defective parts by dismantling equipment by using hand and power tools and hoists while completing root cause analysis of parts.
  • Ensures efficient operation of transportation equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements such as changing oil, checking batteries, lubricating equipment, inspecting brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings and other vital parts to ensure they are in proper operating condition.
  • Conducts daily walk-around inspections of fleet to ensure equipment is in good working order.
  • Assists with required testing, certification and documentation on all equipment.
  • Performs required fabrication on equipment.
  • Provides quick response to work orders and road emergencies to repair vehicles as necessary while operating equipment safely and timely from origin to destination.
  • Ensures safe operations through adherence to Environmental, Health and Safety programs and procedures.
  • Strict adherence to housekeeping, maintaining a clean work area.
  • Conserves resources by using parts and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
  • Maintains records on all equipment and vehicles, as well as daily service logs
  • Demonstrate a cooperative effort to train and assist mechanics and operators in all aspects of equipment maintenance and operation, problem identification, and problem solving.
  • Function as an engaged team member and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.
  • Following all AMPI GMP’s and work in a manner consistent with all corporate and regulatory food safety, quality and sanitation requirements; reporting any nonconformity.
  • Ability to read and comprehend standard operating procedures and company guidelines in order to maintain regulatory compliance.
  • Making a weekly fleet inspection to check oil and fluid levels and record service mileage.
  • Filling out and submitting all required documents in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Responding to road emergencies to repair vehicles as necessary.

  • Operating equipment locally over the road hauling liquid safely and timely from origin to destination.
