About The Position

The Truck Shop Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and repairing diesel- and gasoline-powered trucks, trailers, and equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation. This role performs inspections, preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on a wide variety of fleet vehicles and systems. The Truck Shop Mechanic works closely with drivers, supervisors, and maintenance personnel to minimize downtime, maintain regulatory compliance, and support fleet readiness. By adhering to company safety standards, maintenance procedures, and quality expectations, this position plays a vital role in supporting Pilgrim’s transportation and production operations.

Requirements

  • Experience maintaining and repairing diesel and gasoline-powered trucks, trailers, and equipment.
  • Must provide own tools.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Working knowledge of preventive maintenance programs, vehicle inspections, and repair procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, service information, and repair documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. or more and perform physical tasks associated with vehicle maintenance and repair.

Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections, diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and repairs on diesel- and gasoline-powered trucks, trailers, and equipment.
  • Determine vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic testing and identifying worn, damaged, or malfunctioning components.
  • Complete preventive maintenance schedules, including lubrication, component upgrades, corrosion control, and seasonal maintenance procedures.
  • Repair, overhaul, replace, and adjust major systems and components including powertrain, drivetrain, electrical, fuel, emissions, brake, steering, hydraulic, and air conditioning systems.
  • Perform adjustments and alignments on bearings, gear assemblies, valves, clutches, control linkages, and related components.
  • Conduct test drives and operational checks to verify repairs and proper vehicle performance.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and company vehicle safety and emissions requirements.
  • Maintain accurate service, repair, inspection, and maintenance records.
  • Maintain shop equipment by following operating instructions, troubleshooting issues, performing preventive maintenance, and coordinating repairs as needed.
  • Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering, receiving, and stocking parts, tools, and supplies.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas in accordance with company housekeeping and safety standards.
  • Communicate effectively with drivers, supervisors, vendors, and fellow team members regarding equipment status and repair needs.
  • Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance technical knowledge and skills.
  • Foster a positive work environment through teamwork, professionalism, and accountability.
  • Other duties as assigned.
