About The Position

This position is responsible for assisting in picking up donations by riding in a Salvation Army truck. The role involves lifting, carrying, and hauling donations into the truck and unloading them at the warehouse. The Truck Helper also assists the Truck Driver with navigation, ensures the accountability, security, and safety of donations during transit, and helps maintain the vehicle in proper working order and in compliance with established standards.

Requirements

• Ability to meet attendance requirements.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
• Ability to read and follow a map and/or hand-written directions.
• Ability to perform strenuous, heavy work involving the lifting and carrying of heavy objects.
• Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing.
• Six months experience lifting and hauling heavy items such as appliances and furniture, or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Valid State Driver's License.
• Knowledge of the assigned geographic area.
• Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with co-workers.

Responsibilities

• Prepares donation receipts for customers, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
• Lifts, carries, and hauls donations into the truck, packing items to maximize space, protect from damage, and ensure safety.
• Assists in maintaining the neatness and cleanliness of the warehouse and loading dock area.
• Maintains good relationships with donors to promote a favorable image of The Salvation Army.
• Unloads donations from the truck upon arrival at the warehouse and distributes items to appropriate locations.
• Assists in navigating for the Truck Driver.
• Ensures the accountability, security, and safety of the donations when in route.
• Assists in maintaining the vehicle in proper working order and in compliance with established standards.
