About The Position

As a Truck Driver at Steel Technologies, you will operate a heavy-capacity commercial truck to transport freight between Steel Technologies locations, from suppliers, and to customers. The role transports steel products and supports timely, quality deliveries and exceptional customer service. You will follow a predetermined pickup and delivery schedule, inspect and secure materials, and maintain vehicle inspection and related documentation.

Requirements

• Ability to operate a clutch pedal.
• Ability to operate a tractor-trailer for up to 10 consecutive hours.
• Knowledge of and ability to comply with all D.O.T. and FMCSR requirements and applicable state laws.
• Class A CDL license.
• Two years of driving experience.
• Ability to climb on and off the semi-trailer as needed.
• Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Operate trucks with capacities greater than 3 tons, including tractor-trailer combinations, to transport and deliver steel products.
• Perform required daily vehicle inspections and monthly checklists to ensure mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order.
• Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or vehicle damage.
• Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, follow loading-crew signals, and check that the vehicle and loading equipment are properly positioned.
• Secure cargo for transport using ropes, blocks, chains, binders, or covers.
• Inspect chains, straps, tie-downs, and other securement devices for defects.
• Inspect material on the truck for defects before and after trips.
• Maintain inspection paperwork and documentation relating to accidents or material defects.
• Follow a predetermined schedule of pickup and delivery.
