About The Position

This is the first of two levels in the Truck Driver series. Incumbents operate dump trucks, snowplows and similar vehicles requiring a commercial driver's license. Responsibilities may include operating various vehicles, flagging traffic, and performing manual labor. This is the second of two levels in the Truck Driver series. Incumbents operate dump trucks, snowplows and similar vehicles requiring a commercial driver's license with a tanker endorsement. Responsibilities may include operating various vehicles, flagging traffic, and performing manual labor. PLEASE NOTE: THIS POSITION IS ONLY OPEN TO CURRENT STREET DEPARTMENT EMPLOYEES WHO HAVE BEEN IN THEIR CURRENT POSITION FOR AT LEAST SIX (6) MONTHS. NO OTHER APPLICATIONS WILL BE CONSIDERED.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • No experience required.
  • Possession of a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.

  • Possession of a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with a Tanker endorsement.
  • Knowledge of applicable tools and equipment.
  • Knowledge of manual labor practices.
  • Knowledge of equipment maintenance and repair principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Knowledge of safe driving practices.
  • Knowledge of applicable traffic laws, ordinances, and rules.
  • Skill in operating motor vehicles and applicable equipment.
  • Skill in performing preventive maintenance to applicable equipment.
  • Skill in conducting vehicle inspections and recognizing defects.
  • Skill in performing manual labor.
  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

Responsibilities

  • Operates heavy, specialized equipment, which may include dump trucks, snowplows, tractors, street sweepers, and/or related equipment.
  • Transport equipment and/or materials to designated job site(s).
  • Inspects, maintains, and performs basic repairs to equipment.
  • Operates a variety of small motorized and/or hand tools to perform manual labor activities.
  • Performs various duties requiring manual labor including flagging traffic, picking up debris, and/or other related duties.
  • Performs other related work as required.
