About The Position

The Truck Driver is responsible for safely transporting company products and materials to and from designated locations while operating company vehicles in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, and Kuehne Company policies. This position will initially focus on operating a dump truck to haul company-owned salt. As business needs evolve, the Truck Driver will be cross-trained and expected to operate tanker trucks and transport company products. The Truck Driver may also assist with the field training of new drivers and provide support to other Transportation personnel as directed.

Requirements

  • Must possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class A, with X endorsement (Tanker and Hazardous Materials).
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional truck driving experience with a clean safety and disciplinary record.
  • Previous Hazmat and tanker experience required.
  • Previous hands-on experience operating dump trucks is required, including experience with PTO and hydraulic dump controls and safe loading and dumping practices.
  • Must be willing and able to cross-train on tanker operations and other Transportation duties as required.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate dump trucks, tanker trucks, and other company vehicles as assigned to transport products and materials to and from designated locations.
  • Initially operate a dump truck to safely haul and deliver company-owned salt, including the proper use of PTO and hydraulic dump controls.
  • Perform safe loading, transporting, and dumping operations in accordance with company procedures and applicable regulations.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and functionality.
  • Unload product using appropriate equipment and techniques.
  • Adhere to all traffic laws, regulations, and company policies while on the road.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatchers, supervisors, Customer Service, and customers as needed.
  • Notify the Transportation Department of expected delays of greater than 30 minutes.
  • Check Bills of Lading to ensure destination, product strength, and all customer requirements are met.
  • Double-check BOL information before leaving the plant.
  • Follow designated routes and schedules to ensure timely deliveries.
  • Utilize cab mounted tablets for daily assignments.
  • Complete daily E-Logs and other transportation documentation.
  • Report any unsafe conditions, behaviors, accidents, incidents, or equipment concerns observed in the field.
  • Wear all the required Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Perform routine truck maintenance, including cleaning, fueling, and minor repairs necessary to maintain the vehicle and help ensure compliance with roadside inspection requirements.
  • Take assigned vehicles to the maintenance shop when additional repairs are required.
  • Follow customer policies while at their facilities, provided those policies meet or exceed Kuehne Company requirements.
  • Participate in Hazmat and tanker training and cross-training as required.
  • Conduct new hire truck driver field training in conjunction with supervisors, dispatch, and the Transportation Operations & Safety Manager, as assigned.
  • Assist with transportation emergencies, including motor vehicle accidents, product releases, injuries, or equipment retrieval.
  • Provide instructions or assistance to other drivers as requested by the Dispatcher or Customer Relations Departments.
  • Monitor emails and phone messages and respond to requests for assistance or guidance from other Transportation personnel.
  • Maintain reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Must be able to pass a 10-panel controlled substance testing and random testing after that.
  • Must be able to pass a background investigation check and maintain in good standing order, as per TSA’s TWIC criteria.
