About The Position

This is a job announcement for a Truck Driver position within the Street Department. The announcement covers qualifications for both Truck Driver I and Truck Driver II levels. Incumbents at both levels operate dump trucks, snowplows, and similar vehicles requiring a commercial driver's license. Responsibilities may include operating various vehicles, flagging traffic, and performing manual labor. Applicants will be screened based on their education and CDL license type. This position will remain open through August 24, 2026, or until filled.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • No experience required.
  • Possession of a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (for Truck Driver I).
  • Possession of a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with a Tanker endorsement (for Truck Driver II).
  • Knowledge of applicable tools and equipment.
  • Knowledge of manual labor practices.
  • Knowledge of equipment maintenance and repair principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Knowledge of safe driving practices.
  • Knowledge of applicable traffic laws, ordinances, and rules.
  • Skill in operating motor vehicles and applicable equipment.
  • Skill in performing preventive maintenance to applicable equipment.
  • Skill in conducting vehicle inspections and recognizing defects.
  • Skill in performing manual labor.
  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
  • Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces.
  • Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.
  • Crawling: Moving about on hands, knees, hands, and feet.
  • Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.

Responsibilities

  • Operates heavy, specialized equipment, which may include dump trucks, snowplows, tractors, street sweepers, and/or related equipment.
  • Transport equipment and/or materials to designated job site(s).
  • Inspects, maintains, and performs basic repairs to equipment.
  • Operates a variety of small motorized and/or hand tools to perform manual labor activities.
  • Performs various duties requiring manual labor including flagging traffic, picking up debris, and/or other related duties.
  • Performs other related work as required.
