About The Position
THOMPSON HARDWOODS INC in Hazlehurst, GA is seeking an experienced Log Yard Truck Driver to operate log trucks within its sawmill facility. The role transports logs safely and efficiently throughout the yard to support mill operations. A CDL is not required because the position operates within the yard; prior experience operating log trucks is mandatory. This is an hourly position. The work takes place in an outdoor log yard, with exposure to varying weather conditions and a high-noise industrial environment. The role requires climbing in and out of the truck multiple times per shift, sitting for extended periods while operating equipment, and working safely around heavy machinery.
Requirements
- Previous experience driving log trucks is required.
- A CDL is not required; the position operates within the yard only.
- Strong understanding of log yard safety practices.
- Ability to operate equipment safely in a fast-paced industrial environment.
- Dependable with a strong attendance record.
- Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team.
- Ability to climb in and out of the truck multiple times per shift.
- Ability to sit for extended periods while operating equipment.
- Must be able to work safely around heavy machinery.
Responsibilities
- Operate log trucks within the sawmill yard to transport logs to designated areas.
- Safely maneuver in tight spaces around equipment, log decks, and other vehicles.
- Assist with staging and organizing logs for production.
- Conduct pre-shift inspections of equipment and report maintenance issues.
- Follow yard traffic patterns and safety regulations.
- Communicate with loaders, operators, and supervisors to ensure smooth workflow.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
