About The Position

This role involves operating trucks, primarily for hauling scrap metal. Key responsibilities include loading and unloading trucks, inspecting and grading metal for inventory, performing DOT inspections, communicating with customers and the office, and maintaining a safe working environment within the scrap metal yard. The position also requires performing daily maintenance on equipment and ensuring the cleanliness and organization of the work area.

Requirements

Must pass a medical physical and drug test.
Must pass a background check.
Ability to communicate with others effectively.
Ability to understand direction (written or oral).
Ability to use basic math skills as the job demands.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or GED and/or foreign education acceptable.
Bi-lingual (English & Spanish) language skills.
Previous experience operating a Wheel Loader.

Responsibilities

Load and unload trucks hauling scrap metal.
Inspect and determine metal grade for inventory tracking.
Perform DOT daily operation and safety inspection.
Communicate with office and customers to determine commodities to load.
Drive scrap metal trucks independently.
Work with customers to satisfy their needs and assist them when problems arise.
Work with other employees in the scrap metal yard to ensure a safe working environment.
Perform normal daily operation maintenance: refueling, lubrication, cooling system cleaning, and housekeeping.
Clean up work area at the end of shift.
Keep work areas neat and orderly.
Organize materials for effective use of space.
Dispose of various waste materials in the appropriate manner.
Ensure cleanup is completed through inspection.
Maintain effective housekeeping in the workplace area for safety and hygienic conditions.
