Truck Driver Helper (6328)
About The Position
This position is responsible for assisting the Truck Driver in lifting and stacking donations in the truck and unloading/loading the truck. The role also involves preparing donation receipts for customers, maintaining good relationships with donors, and placing/arranging items in the store. The Truck Driver Helper will also inspect donated items and explain acceptance policies to customers. Additionally, the role includes assisting with cleaning and maintaining the warehouse and loading dock, picking up trash, and assisting customers with carrying items in and out of the store.
Requirements
- Ability to meet attendance requirements.
- Ability to read, write and communicate the English language effectively.
- Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing.
- Duties require frequent periods of physical mobility including but not limited to standing, walking, climbing, bending, squatting, and lifting.
- Physical duties may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of sitting.
- Extensive amount of physical effort required associated with lifting, moving, and carrying heavy objects (up to 100 lbs.) frequently.
- High school or G.E.D. preferred but not required.
- Prior experience driving a box truck preferred, or any equivalent combination of training and experience providing the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Valid State Driver’s License
Responsibilities
- Assists Truck Driver in lifting and stacking donations in the truck and unloading/loading truck.
- Prepares donation receipts for customers; ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same.
- Maintains good relationships with donors to promote a favorable image of The Salvation Army.
- Places and arranges furniture, appliances, books, or other heavy items in the store as directed.
- Inspects donated items briefly to ensure they can be used according to established policies and procedures; explains policy to customers regarding the types of items that can be accepted.
- Assists in cleaning and maintaining the warehouse and loading dock area; picks up trash and debris surrounding the grounds as requested.
- Assists with placing items in the store as needed.
- Assists customers in carrying purchased/ donated items in/out of the store.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
