About The Position

Ryder is hiring a Class A CDL truck driver in Eldridge, Iowa, for solo regional routes to Iowa and Illinois. Drivers operate a day cab with a 48-foot flatbed or Conestoga trailer, hauling steel with load securement only. The schedule is Monday through Friday, with dispatch starting at 4:30 AM and no weekends. Drivers average 1,600–1,900 miles and 15–25 stops per week, with two overnight stays per week in Ryder-paid hotels. Weekly pay is advertised at $1,500 or more, with mileage and stop pay, plus a $51.50 nightly per diem. Paid training is provided. Ryder provides well-maintained trucks that are 36 months old or newer, 24/7 roadside maintenance, and fueling at more than 800 nationwide maintenance locations. Drivers are expected to make safety decisions and may have their jobs protected when doing so. Ryder describes the role as a company-driver position with support during the transition and throughout the driver's career.

Requirements

Be at least 21 years of age.
Pass a Ryder drug test.
Pass a Ryder background and motor vehicle check, including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last three years.
Pass a DOT physical.
Pass a Ryder road test.
Provide the appropriate CDL and endorsements for the position.
Have Class A verifiable experience in a tractor-trailer or comparable vehicle: 9 months within the past 3 years, or 2 years within the last 5 years, or 5 years within the last 10 years.
Have at least 3 months of recent flatbed experience.
Be able to operate a manual transmission.
Be able to follow written and/or oral instructions.
Be able to read, interpret, and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, and/or procedures.

Responsibilities

Ensure compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations, agency rules, standards, and guidelines.
Detect and eliminate or minimize safety hazards.
Maintain accurate records and logs.
Load and unload freight, or assist with loading and unloading if required by the customer.
Perform other duties as assigned.
