About The Position

Ryder is hiring a Class A CDL solo truck driver in Ashland, Virginia. The position offers weekly pay averaging $1,950, paid training, a quarterly safety bonus, and sign-on bonuses paid at 30 and 90 days. Drivers deliver freight across North Dakota, Texas, all states east, and Canada, using sleeper tractors with APUs and dry van or Conestoga trailers. Freight includes commercial and residential garage doors; work may involve touch freight, driver assistance, and load securement by strapping. Drivers are home every other week and may bring a person and/or pet on the road. Ryder provides well-maintained trucks that are 36 months old or newer, 24/7 roadside maintenance, and fueling at more than 800 nationwide maintenance locations. The company describes its drivers as making safety decisions and offers support throughout their driving careers.

Requirements

Be at least 21 years of age.
Pass a Ryder drug test, background check, and motor vehicle check, including verification of drug and alcohol information from previous employers for the last three years.
Pass a DOT physical and Ryder road test.
Provide the appropriate CDL and endorsements for the position.
Have verifiable Class A experience in a tractor-trailer or comparable vehicle: 9 months within the past 3 years, or 2 years within the last 5 years, or 5 years within the last 10 years.
Be able to follow written and/or oral instructions.
Be able to read, interpret, and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, and/or procedures.

Responsibilities

Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws, regulations, agency rules, standards, and guidelines.
Detect and eliminate or minimize safety hazards.
Maintain accurate records and logs.
Load and unload freight, or assist with loading and unloading when required by the customer.
Perform other duties as assigned.
