About The Position

This non-permanent position is expected to last one (1) year. The Truck Driver 2 position will support the State of Washington Refuse/Recycle Program for the Washington State Capitol Campus. Some of these duties include driving rear load refuse collection vehicles, driving box trucks or pick up trucks, and hand collection of materials for disposal or reuse. In addition to these responsibilities there will also be opportunities to support events on the campus and associated Capitol Campus Parks and support of other DES public facing programs.

Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License and Washington State Commercial Driver’s License and be able to drive vehicles up to 38,500 lbs gross weight in accordance with agency policies.
  • One year experience working as a Truck Driver 1.
  • Equivalent education/experience.
  • Must be able to empty, push and pull full barrels or other collection containers weighing in excess of 50lbs continuously in various locations daily to a height of 46 inches to dump material into large rolling bins.
  • Must be able to push or pull rolling bins and refuse collection dumpsters weighing up to 900 lbs across various surfaces, load them into and off load them from a truck utilizing a loading dock and/or lift gate provided on the truck.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and participate in the DES drug and alcohol testing program upon hire.
  • Must register with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse and provide a release to DES to run queries as required by law.
  • Must have and maintain a clean driver’s abstract free of any serious traffic violations.

Responsibilities

  • Drive refuse collection truck with a maximum gross vehicle weight of 38,500 lbs requiring a Washington State Commercial Driver’s License in good standing and valid when driving the refuse collection vehicle.
  • Dump rear tip designed dumpsters into the hopper of the refuse collection vehicle utilizing the vehicle’s dumpster collection controls.
  • Deliver collected material to the assigned collection or drop off location.
  • Collect recycle material, mostly mixed paper and mixed paper in locked shredded bins, onto large box trucks for delivery to recycle collection center.
  • Track bins by bin number based on location of recycle material collection to track the source and mass of recycle paper and turn log into the supervisor weekly.
  • Attending agency training/meeting.
  • Daily logging hours worked into FMMS time keeping system.
