About The Position

We are hiring a FULL-TIME Permanent Truck Dispatcher at our Edmonton Distribution Centre! This position reports to the Manager, Regional Trucking and will be responsible to plan and dispatch our Alberta based drivers and Owner Operators from the Edmonton/Sherwood Park Yard. The Truck Dispacther coordinates deck and liquid freight with operational requirements, working closely with customer service, projects, yard operations, and drivers. Daily and ongoing communication and coaching of drivers and owner/operators is a key responsibility in effectively executing freight movement, achieving customer satisfaction, and maximizing asset utilization. The DSR updates, confirms, and approves driver documents, asset (truck & trailer) status information and system entries for the fleet. Our facility requires 7 days a week dispatch and planning and as such we have two Truck Dispatchers to offset one another with a 4 on 4 off day shift position. Hours for this role are 6:30am to 6:00pm.

Requirements

  • Proven planning skills to maintain a high level of asset (truck & trailer) utilization.
  • Working knowledge of load securement – open deck, hours of service, over dimensional permits and preventative maintenance.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task across diverse communication platforms (email, radio, desk phone, cellphone, and in-person).
  • Able to provide clear direction to Company Drivers and Owner Operators.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills to handle volume of work, changing demands and various sources of information.
  • Attention to details and information to ensure accuracy and timeliness of driver pay, operational costs and system updates.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel and transportation software or systems (we use the Truckmate System).
  • Able to adjust work hours to meet operational demands.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work (no public transportation available).

  • Mechanical aptitude is an asset.

  • Provide after hour support requirements during the four day “on shift” period.
