About The Position

The Truck Dispatcher is responsible for assigning loads to drivers accurately and timely, using all available resources to cover loads and successfully service stores. This role also involves investigating shortages and delivery problems and implementing solutions.

Requirements

  • Must be 18+.
  • High School or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to solve logical problems with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  • Ability to copy data from one record to another, make appointments, interpret written work instructions, interview to obtain basic information, and have increased contact with people.
  • Basic computer knowledge preferred.
  • 1 year of related work experience preferred.
  • Must be physically able to perform sedentary work: exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
  • Visual requirements include clarity of vision at distance of 20 inches or less, with or without correction.
  • Must be able to perform the following physical activities: Fingering, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
  • Has daily contact with store personnel.
  • Has occasional contact with the public.
  • Has access to confidential information including unlisted phone numbers of drivers, special deliveries, invoices.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic computer knowledge preferred.
  • 1 year of related work experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assigns loads to drivers based on seniority.
  • Creates loads for backhauls and direct store deliveries, coordinating with the dispatch sheet in routing and distributing to the appropriate department.
  • Releases orders to grocery and perishable warehouses for product selection.
  • Receives calls from stores regarding deliveries.
  • Contacts stores if problems arise with a delivery.
  • Investigates shorts and longs on shipments and corrects problems.
  • Reports to work when scheduled and on time.
  • Maintains attendance reports.
  • Performs other job-related duties and special projects as required.
