About The Position

Big Bend Community College (BBCC) is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time, 12-month position as a TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) STEM Academic Advisor. BBCC's TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program is a federally funded initiative by the U.S. Department of Education designed to help Big Bend first-generation, low-income, and disabled students succeed in college. Through a high-touch, proactive approach, the program provides students with the support they need to thrive. This includes holistic, comprehensive academic advising, academic tutoring, financial literacy workshops, financial aid information and assistance, and college campus visits. The TRIO Student Support Services Academic Advisor provides academic, career, and transfer assistance to TRIO students, supporting their academic journey and the overall program. This position reports to the Director of TRIO Student Support Services and works closely with the Advising & Retention department to advance the college’s academic advising mission, Tutoring Services, Counseling, Financial Aid, Admissions/Registration, Workforce Education Services, and Accommodations and Accessibility Services to provide services to all eligible participants. This is a full-time, 12-month, grant-funded position. This position is dependent upon continued grant funding. Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in counseling, social work, education, or related field from a regionally accredited institution.
Two or more years of professional experience assisting students in the target population (first-generation, financially disadvantaged, and/or differently-abled students) and/or individuals from diverse academic, age, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
Knowledge of basic computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite.
Adaptable and capable of problem-solving in dynamic environments.
Valid Washington State driver’s license.

Responsibilities

Assist with recruitment, selection, and orientation of new Student Support Services STEM participants
Maintain a caseload of program participants by assessing individual needs and providing services, resources, and activities that promote academic success.
Provide individualized advising on academic, personal, career, financial aid, economic literacy, transfer, and educational planning to help students achieve their educational and career goals.
Develop and support student educational plans, helping students navigate academic pathways and make informed decisions about their future.
Assist students with completing scholarship applications, financial aid forms, college admissions applications, and university transfer processes.
Provide information and referrals to appropriate college programs, departments, community resources, and program-sponsored online tutoring services.
Conduct follow-up with students identified through early alert systems and implement intervention strategies to address barriers to success.
Lead workshops for students in various topics such as study skills instruction, financial planning, STEM careers, and STEM-transfer advising.
Coordinate and supervise four-year college campus visits (focused on STEM-transferring), academic, and cultural activities.
Lead the TRIO Mentoring Program for TRIO students.
Proactively engage students through personalized outreach, messaging campaigns, and other communication strategies that support persistence, retention, and student success in alignment with grant requirements and BBCC goals.
Identify and apply research-based advising practices that enhance student learning, development, and achievement.
Foster an inclusive, equitable, and student-centered advising environment that supports the diverse needs of the student population.
Contribute to BBCC’s mission, strategic enrollment goals, and commitment to student success and equity by participating in student recruitment, outreach efforts, New Student Enrollment activities, and college-wide initiatives that support traditionally underrepresented student populations.
Assist with the planning, coordination, and implementation of the program’s Transfer Summer Bridge Program and other transition initiatives.
Foster collaboration and partnerships with academic departments, student services offices, community partners, and student organizations to strengthen support services, promote a culture of belonging and inclusivity, and advance student persistence, retention, and success.
Disseminate information about the TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) Program to the campus community and assist with outreach efforts that increase program visibility and participation.
Assist with data collection, records management, surveys, reporting, and program evaluation activities to support compliance, continuous improvement, and achievement of program objectives.
Maintain timely and accurate student caseload records/files, including contact logs, case notes, academic progress, financial aid pace of progression, and other relevant documentation.
Assist with data management, surveys, and program evaluation to assess student progress, program effectiveness, and compliance.
Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, trainings, and professional affiliations to keep apprised of latest trends in field of expertise.
Ensure no injuries to self or others by following safe work practices and policies. This includes, but is not limited to: security and safety, understanding of SDS, equipment, infection control, fire, disaster, safe lifting and body mechanics.
Ensure compliance with college policies and procedures and state and federal regulations.
Work and interact effectively with colleagues, staff, students, administrators and others of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
Perform related duties and responsibilities as may be required.
