About The Position

The Assistant Director, TRIO/SSS serves as the immediate supervisor of the day-to-day activities and services of the Student Support Services (SSS) Program at the Kansas State University Salina Campus. This program is federally funded and provides services designed to assist low-income and first-generation college students, and students with disabilities in obtaining a bachelor’s degree. The Federal TRIO Programs (TRIO) are Federal outreach and student services programs designed to identify and provide services for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. TRIO includes eight programs targeted to serve and assist low-income individuals, first-generation college students, and individuals with disabilities to progress through the academic pipeline from middle school to post baccalaureate programs. TRIO also includes a training program for directors and staff of TRIO projects. Student Support Services at Kansas State University Salina has been serving students since 2001. SSS currently serves 160 students annually on the Salina campus.

Requirements

• Requires a high school diploma (or equivalent)
• Seven years of relevant experience. Requirements may be met through a combination of work experience and education.
• Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship

Nice To Haves

• Master's Degree
• Three (3) years of experience in supervising, training, teaching, and/or working with students from a variety of backgrounds in higher education.
• Experience working in TRIO or similar programs
• Excellent management and communication skills with the ability to work effectively and foster a cooperative environment within the department and its constituencies
• Initiative and strong interpersonal skills for meeting the needs of the student population and for relating effectively with faculty, staff, and administrators
• Supervisory experience, including mentoring, evaluating, and supporting staff
• Experience with educational event planning
• Experience with or knowledge of Federal Financial Aid programs and application processes
• Experience and demonstrated proficiency in public speaking

Responsibilities

• Serves as the immediate supervisor of the day-to-day activities and services of the Student Support Services (SSS) Program at the Kansas State University Salina Campus.
• Provides services designed to assist low-income and first-generation college students, and students with disabilities in obtaining a bachelor’s degree.
• Uses a computer for accessing email, KSIS, entering student information in the database and other uses.
