Job Description: This job is responsible for defining an architectural vision and solution aligned to the enterprise architecture strategy, technology, and platform choices. Key responsibilities include describing the solution intent/associated operating environment, evaluating system impacts, determining the primary systems/sub-systems and their interfaces, and assisting with end-to-end solution design. Job expectations include defining non-functional requirements/architectural runway to support new epics/features and ensuring solutions are fit for purpose by working with stakeholders and service providers. Position Summary: Infrastructure Information Services is looking for talent to build best-in-class Data Virtualization and Business Intelligence Services capability using Starburst Trino. The Starburst Trino Administrator will help manage the current system cluster deployment consisting of Development, UAT, Production and Contingency. In addition will act as third level support to troubleshoot the platform when issues arise. You will also be responsible for maintaining and updating all Level 1 and Level 2 support playbooks for outside supporting groups and assisting end-users with client connectivity. Candidate should be able to work in teams in a collaborative manner

Requirements

  • Strong hands-on experience with Starburst Trino distributed SQL query Engine
  • Experience with big data solutions and data lake technology (e.g., Apache Iceberg, Parquet, ORC, Hadoop)
  • Proficiency in Linux systems administration, configuration management, and scripting (e.g., Python, Bash)
  • Proficiency with Ansible and Ansible Playbook Automations
  • Knowledge of packaging and promotion practices for maintaining code in development, test, and production
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and communications skills
  • Advanced SQL Skills and experience with optimization

Nice To Haves

  • Strong understanding of distributed systems and how to build and scale them.
  • Experience deploying Starburst on container technology.

Responsibilities

  • Consults with the business and operations to identify and understand challenges and opportunities to improve the use and effectiveness of technology, find creative solutions through knowledge of the domain, practical experiments, and Proof of Concepts, and aligns the solution intent and architectural vision to an evolving backlog of technology change
  • Works with product management and other stakeholders to plan and prioritize technology focused backlog items for the architecture runway to enable business epics/features
  • Performs design and code reviews to ensure all non-functional requirements for a solution are sufficiently met (for example, security, performance, maintainability, scalability, usability, and reliability)
  • Leads rapid shaping of a high level architecture with details filled in with emerging business requirements and ensures architecture is flexible, modular, and designed to adapt easily
  • Educates team members on the technology practices, standardization strategies, and best practices to create innovative solutions
  • Clarifies the architecture and assists with system design for the development teams to support implementation and provides solution options to resolve any architectural impediments
  • Utilizes the defined best practices, templates, and documentation to create architectural designs and suggests improvements to best practices and templates
  • Platform administration: Lead the deployment, upgrades, migrations, and day-to-day maintenance of Starburst Enterprise clusters.
  • Automation : Develop and maintain solutions using Python, Shell Scripting, and other tools to automate configuration, deployment, scaling, monitoring, and support tasks.
  • Architecture and scaling: Collaborate on and drive system architecture for Starburst as a scalable query engine and shared service. Ensure stability and scalability of the platform for petabyte-scale data workloads.
  • Performance tuning : Provide subject-matter expertise for diagnosing and resolving issues related to query performance and cluster stability. Perform SQL query optimization and performance tuning for large datasets.
  • Configuration management : Own the updates to coordinator and worker node configuration files, including catalog properties, to integrate new and existing data sources.
  • Security and access control : Manage security configurations and integration with existing systems and control user access to data sources.
  • Monitoring and troubleshooting : Configure and maintain monitoring and logging solutions to ensure system reliability. Collect logs and Java thread dumps to drive improvements and troubleshoot issues.
  • Cross -team collaboration: Work with data engineers, data scientists, and business teams to support data initiatives and provide reliable data solutions.
  • Data Integrity and management : Support Table formats like Apache Iceberg and build/support materialized views.
  • Documentation : Create and maintain documentation for best practices, processes, and troubleshooting runbooks.
