About The Position

Under general supervision, the Tribal School Registered Nurse plans, directs, and evaluates total health care and nursing functions in accordance with established philosophy. This role provides culturally competent, strength-based community nursing services to children and families served by Muckleshoot Tribal School (MTS), assisting them to access the health care system, use community services appropriately, and strive for self-sufficiency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree from an accredited Registered Nursing degree program
  • Current and valid Washington State Registered Nursing license
  • Two (2) years of clinical experience
  • Knowledge of: Medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology
  • Knowledge of: Equipment, supplies and materials needed for medical treatment
  • Knowledge of: Basic laboratory procedures including preparation and screening
  • Knowledge of: Health care system structure and function
  • Knowledge of: Infectious disease management, control and safety standards
  • Knowledge of: Effective supervision
  • Knowledge of: Medical record documentation
  • Knowledge of: Basic pharmacology
  • Knowledge of: Human systems (wellness, illness, growth and development, nutrition, behavioral, psycho-social and family systems)
  • Skill in: Triage

  • Current and valid Washington State Driver’s License, is required at the time of appointment or at a time set by the Tribe

Responsibilities

  • Defines and maintains the standards of nursing practice with MTS; assesses the quality of care rendered.
  • Initiates the development of policies and procedures that governs nursing services and other services with the position's control. Observes and supports MTS policy.
  • Serves as spokesperson for nursing matters and represents MTS with processional nursing and related organizations. Participates in appropriate meetings and committees.
  • Provides the best possible nursing care by planning, organizing and directing the nursing functions within MTS.
  • Explains procedures and treatments to parents, staff and families to gain cooperation, understanding, and allay apprehension. Initiates and implements patient care plan; maintains acceptable standards of patient care.
  • Provides training and consultation with staff regarding health and developmental needs of individual students; participates in staff development activities.
  • Administers treatments and medications skillfully and correctly.
  • Maintains the standards of accurate and complete recording and reporting and documentation in medical record.
  • Participates in planning changes and improvements for MTS safety programs.
  • Supports and enforces infection-control policies and procedures.
  • Consistently maintains and enforces confidentiality. Displays concern and initiative; is resourceful and calm in emergencies.
  • Cooperates and maintains good rapport with other MTS staff, MTS visitors, and community. Supports collaboration with healthcare professionals serving community.
  • Develops, facilitates, and participates in student education activities, health fairs and outreach programs.
  • Maintain the privacy and confidentiality of all protected health information in accordance with the education division’s Policies and Procedures, and in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time, which may or may not be related to regular responsibilities, due to the Tribe’s commitment to community service and the well being of its members.
