About The Position

This role involves representing ERIE and its insureds in litigated matters within Pennsylvania. The position handles a diverse caseload encompassing personal injury, property damage, and other insurance-related disputes. The attorney will manage all phases of litigation, including discovery, depositions, motion practice, hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials. There are multiple positions available, and candidates will be considered for Trial Attorney II or Senior Trial Attorney roles, with the final level determined by the selected candidates' qualifications and experience. The positions will be based out of the Philadelphia Branch Office.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school required.
  • Ten years of civil litigation experience, preferably in insurance defense, required.
  • Admitted to practice, and in good standing, in Pennsylvania, required.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required.

Nice To Haves

  • Admitted to practice, and in good standing, in the Federal Courts in Pennsylvania, preferred.
  • Some periodic or overnight travel required

Responsibilities

  • Represents ERIE and its insureds in civil litigation from inception through trial and appeal.
  • Assesses liability arguments and damages presented and offers timely insights and recommendations to support effective claims resolution.
  • Collaborates with claims professionals, experts, and other stakeholders to ensure effective case management and consistent legal strategy.
  • Conducts discovery; takes depositions; prepares witnesses for testimony; drafts and argues motions, pleadings, and other court filings; and attends court hearings, pretrial conferences, mediations, settlement conferences, arbitrations and trials.
  • Mentors junior attorneys and contributes to team development through knowledge sharing and collaboration.
  • Participates in training and development programs to enhance litigation and trial advocacy skills.
