About The Position

This position provides for the prosecution of criminal and non-criminal cases. The incumbent handles felony cases under supervision, for example adult and juvenile burglaries, property crimes, armed robberies, drug trafficking, mental commitments, and probation violations. The role also involves taking rotation as on-call attorney, performing legal research for other attorneys, assisting in trial teams, and performing non-prosecution duties as assigned. The attorney may advise/assist entry-level attorneys at the discretion of the district attorney, work with law enforcement at crime scenes, perform non-prosecution duties such as community outreach, and participate on boards and task forces. The incumbent receives general supervision from the assigned supervisor and may supervise assigned support staff.

Requirements

  • J.D. degree
  • Licensed attorney in New Mexico
  • Minimum of two (2) years as a practicing attorney or one (1) year as a prosecuting attorney
