The Triage Technician, Ophthalmology will be responsible for managing the Ophthalmology Triage phone line, collecting essential data from patients or referring providers regarding ocular problems and concerns. This role involves arranging patient appointments for urgent care visits based on departmental protocols, medical guidelines, and physician instructions. The technician will respond promptly to triage calls, accurately record information in the electronic medical record, and relay patient information to providers in a timely manner. Additionally, this position will coordinate discussions between providers and referring providers as needed, process patient referrals from outside offices, and arrange appointments. The technician must maintain all essential functions of their current certification level (COA, COT, or COMT) and demonstrate knowledge of the ophthalmic patient population's needs. Professional and courteous interaction with patients, families, and physicians, along with strong listening and communication skills, are crucial.
