Requirements

  • 1+ year accessioning experience required.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of all policies and procedures and ability to reference them from appropriate books and manuals.
  • Comply with the company’s infection control policies and procedures including the Exposure Control Plan and OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard to ensure a safe working environment for self and others.
  • Ensure the company is operated in an efficient and cost effective manner by adhering to the attendance policies.
  • PC skills – including typing accurately at 40 wpm.
  • Ability to pass color deficiency testing.

Nice To Haves

  • College degree in related field preferred.
  • Prior laboratory experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Correlating incoming specimens with the attached case manifest and requisition/demographics; patient name, test ordered, and applicable medical insurance information.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships, both internally and externally.
  • Leading the team of Triage Coordinators and all their job duties.
  • Training Triage Coordinators/Accessioners.
  • Providing backup support to the Accessioning Manager.
  • Supporting the Lead Accessioner.
  • Managing workflow to the benches for the accessioners/data entry team.
  • Running all end of the night Quality Control reports.
  • Documenting, on the original log sheet/case requisition, directions as to where the specimen must be forwarded based on insurance and test(s) ordered.
  • Transferring information from our requisition to the appropriate requisition based on insurance capitation, or utilizing the necessary software to generate the appropriate requisition for cases needing to be forwarded to another lab.
  • Ensuring all information is correct and kept with appropriate specimens.
  • Developing the Shipping Manifest that must be sent to each client who has specimens forwarded – fax/e-mail log daily or weekly, depending on the client.
  • Answering telephone lines promptly in a professional manner then transferring calls to appropriate person or taking a message.
  • Organizing filing and filing reports appropriately.
  • Organizing and prioritizing assigned work in conjunction with other assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Providing Pathologist work distribution backup.
  • Ensuring productivity and close time are met for the department.
  • Working and performing in a positive and effective manner with pathologists, management, and co-workers in other departments.
  • Providing top-level customer service to patients and clients.
  • Maintaining strictest confidentiality.
  • Complying with all State, Federal, professional regulations as well as company and departmental rules, polices, and procedural manuals.
  • Adhering to HIPAA, Safety and OSHA Regulations.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
