About The Position

Under general supervision, this role trims and prunes trees from the ground and by climbing. Work is performed throughout the community as a member of a specialist crew, working independently or as lead worker of a sub crew. This position involves regular contact with residents. When assigned as lead worker, the role coordinates the work of two or more workers engaged in trimming and pruning trees, working from the ground, ladders, and by climbing. The role also plants and removes trees, cleans sidewalks and streets after trimming or removal, loads trucks, and drives to disposal sites. Maintaining a safe and orderly job site and work area is crucial. The role operates various types of equipment for tree removal and trimming, and is responsible for cleaning, adjusting, and maintaining assigned equipment. Responsibilities include following up on resident complaints, correcting problems or referring them to a foreman or supervisor, and noting the disposition. Effective collaboration with co-workers, customers, and others is expected, involving sharing ideas constructively, listening to others, keeping commitments, and keeping others informed of work progress. The role addresses problems and issues constructively to find practical business solutions and respects the diversity of the workforce. Regular attendance is required, and all duties are performed on site for the Community.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write and apply common sense understanding to the carrying out of oral or written instructions.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the job.
  • Knowledge of the types and methods of care of the trees found in the Community.
  • Knowledge of the field maintenance requirements of assigned equipment.
  • Ability to perform manual work requiring physical strength and stamina appropriate to the area of assignment.
  • Ability to read and write work-related job instructions in English.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others in English.
  • Skill in climbing.
  • Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment appropriate to the nature of assignment.
  • Possession of a valid California driver’s license and Class B Commercial Driver’s license (F-800 Chipper Truck).
  • Possession of certification by the International Society of Arboriculture as a “Tree Worker” or “Arborist” with certification union wages at technical level.
