About The Position

This recruitment is to fill a Term-Limited Temporary position that is anticipated to end in August 2027. If filled by a King County employee who has passed their initial probation, it will be a Special Duty Assignment. King County’s Finance and Business Operations Division, Treasury Section, has an exciting opportunity for a special duty Business Finance Officer III on the Property Tax unit through August 2027. We are seeking an individual with strong interpersonal skills, a sharp eye toward accuracy and detail, and an inquisitive eagerness to become an expert in multiple treasury disciplines. As the successful candidate you will work closely with treasury supervisors and team leads to ensure smooth day-to-day operations, assist with workflow management, and lead teams on core activities and special projects. Each day you will effectively use systems, tools, and analytical thinking to investigate and resolve puzzling payment and account issues. You will be expected to manage your time exceptionally well and work both autonomously and collaboratively with others. Periodically you will dedicate your time to directly interacting with the public or external stakeholders to respond to their needs with professionalism, kindness, empathy, and respect. You will coordinate procurement project support for the Property Tax unit and monitor budget to actuals for expenses. Additionally, you will serve as a backup to the Functional Analyst by providing production, technical, and administrative support for all issues related to King County property tax and fees. You will help maintain and validate the accuracy and integrity of accounts in the tax system, triage problematic accounts, and provide quality assurance for tax roll balancing and annual certification activities.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of statutes pertaining to Treasury Operations
  • Expert level of technological proficiency using MS Excel
  • Intermediate skill in using other MS Office Productivity tools
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, particularly detailed reporting
  • Possess strong analytical, problem-solving, and research skills
  • Skill in working effectively and cooperatively with a variety of individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to manage time and adapt to changing priorities, work on multiple priorities and projects simultaneously, meet quick deadlines, and produce timely and quality work products
  • Skill in researching and making recommendations, conclusions and decisions

Responsibilities

  • Provide production and technical support for property tax systems and applications, including system administration, billing cycle support, reporting, data querying, and data analysis.
  • Maintain and validate the accuracy and integrity of tax accounts in the tax system.
  • Triage problematic accounts.
  • Coordinate and provide quality assurance for tax roll balancing and certification activities.
  • Act as a liaison with internal and external partners.
  • Proficiently use tools, systems, and applications for tax account administration.
  • Develop understanding of end-to-end processes and stakeholders involved, expanding analytical thinking, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Recognize, diagnose, and reconcile account and payment irregularities.
  • Leverage strong system knowledge to troubleshoot issues.
  • Accurately analyze, research, and resolve property tax payment discrepancies.
  • Act as liaison on legislative matters, between internal and external stakeholders, and for providing system functional support, processing, and troubleshooting.
  • Understand and practically apply State statute, King County Code, and internal procedures to effectively administer property tax accounts.
  • Coordinate procurement projects and monitor budget to actuals for internal expenditures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
