About The Position

Southern Champion Tray (SCT) is seeking a Tray Machine Operator for the First Shift. This role is responsible for operating tray machines to ensure quality products are produced at a consistent rate of speed, adhering to machine standards and all safety procedures. Team members are expected to act in accordance with the company's Core Values and Operating Principles: Trustworthy, Servant-Hearted, Relational, and Resourceful. The operator will be responsible for setting up and operating machines, following procedures, maintaining equipment, ensuring product quality, packaging, labeling, and stocking. This role requires basic computer skills, mechanical ability, and the ability to communicate effectively in English. The operator will work on machines TFC-307 and TFC-304, which handle multiple color, custom jobs and may require advanced printing skills to address issues like ink leaks, color changes, and loose types.

Requirements

  • Experience operating a tray machine, preferably in a folding carton environment.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to utilize software.
  • Mechanical ability and skills.
  • Ability to read and understand documents, letters, etc.
  • Ability to write legibly in English.
  • Ability to understand and speak clearly, communicate, and understand directions in English as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced printing skills to address issues like machine alignment, ink leaks, color changes and fades, and types coming loose.

Responsibilities

  • Operate tray machines to ensure quality products are achieved at a consistent rate of speed in accordance with machine standards.
  • Ensure all safety procedures are followed.
  • Set up and operate machines in a consistent manner as instructed in the training program, to meet production requirements.
  • Follow procedures with regard to proper set up unless the training is changed and properly recorded.
  • Be responsible for all equipment, tools assigned, and parts of the machine and notify the supervisor of any additional tools or equipment that would add to the efficiency and safety of the operation.
  • Follow all instructions issued on the work jacket and advise the supervisor and lead of any incorrect or non-recorded information that is necessary for proper set-up and operation.
  • Ensure trays come off the line in good quality and are packaged accurately.
  • Watch for quality issues and address them immediately.
  • Perform quality checks every 20 minutes.
  • Bag product coming off the line, box bags, and stack boxes on pallet.
  • Watch for glue and paint issues and address.
  • Log into the computer to view job ticket, efficiency scores, enter down time reasons, and make comments.
  • Keep all necessary supplies available.
  • Be responsible for the quality of the product, packaging, labeling, and stocking.
  • Be responsible for the quality of product manufactured concerning correct viscosity, color, shading, contrast, straining, and ink used.
  • See that pallet loads are accurately counted, tagged, and entered to the production report.
  • Follow the stacking arrangement, number of layers, and height requirement for each case size from the Stacking Pattern.
  • Once a pallet is full, call the stock puller on the paging system to move the pallet.
  • Calculate scrap rate to assure job stays within allowable limits.
  • Maintain machine, keep an eye on equipment to ensure that machine stays clean for best turnover between jobs and shifts.
  • Communicate well with other team members.
  • Wear appropriate PPE for the task and the area.
  • Welcome updates and improvements to processes and follow new procedures and innovations, which would add to the efficiency and safety of the operation.
  • Perform work in a manner that keeps down time to a minimum.
  • Maintain a clean work environment in accordance with Food Safety and 5S systems.
  • Follow all safety-related policies, rules, regulations, technical instructions, and guidelines.
  • Use situational awareness and identify unsafe behaviors and conditions.
  • May be asked to help with duties in other areas or departments.
  • Run machines TFC-307 and TFC-304, performing multiple color, custom jobs that require advanced printing skills.
