Traveling MIG Welder
About The Position
Super Steel is seeking experienced MIG Welders with strong fit-up skills to join a high-production fabrication environment. The ideal candidate will be highly proficient in MIG welding, blueprint reading, and weld fit-up, with experience working on carbon steel, mild steel, and stainless steel components. Candidates with both short-circuit and pulse MIG welding experience are strongly preferred. This role requires individuals who can independently interpret blueprints, perform layout and fit-up, and produce high-quality welds while maintaining productivity and safety standards.
Requirements
- Minimum 3+ years of MIG welding and fabrication experience
- Strong fit-up experience with the ability to build directly from prints
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and AWS weld symbols
- Experience welding: A36 carbon steel, Mild steel, Stainless steel
- Experience with sheet, plate, and square/rectangular tubing
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
Nice To Haves
- Experience welding dissimilar metals, particularly stainless steel to mild steel
- Pulse MIG welding experience
- Vertical-up welding experience
- Overhead welding experience
- Structural welding background
- Layout and fabrication experience in non-fixtured environments
Responsibilities
- Perform MIG welding using .035" wire with a 75/25 gas mixture
- Utilize both short-circuit transfer and pulse transfer welding processes
- Weld carbon steel, mild steel, stainless steel, and dissimilar metals
- Use 309 wire when welding dissimilar materials
- Complete weld fit-up from blueprints without direct supervision
- Produce quality fillet and groove welds in accordance with AWS weld symbols and WPS requirements
- Perform basic weld cleanup and remove spatter as needed
- Work from engineering drawings, weld symbols, bills of materials, and assembly instructions
- Build and fit assemblies using both fixtured and non-fixtured processes
- Maintain quality standards while meeting production requirements
- Safely operate jib cranes and pallet jacks as required
