The Traveling GPS & Lube Technician is responsible for installing and maintaining GPS tracking systems and performing routine lubrication services on fleet vehicles and heavy equipment. This role ensures reliable fleet visibility, supports field operations, and helps extend the life and performance of company assets through proactive maintenance. Key duties include installing and testing GPS units, diagnosing and repairing hardware or connectivity issues, performing firmware updates and calibrations, and providing basic training to field personnel on GPS usage. The technician also conducts routine lubrication and preventive maintenance, checks fluid levels and filters, documents all service activities, identifies potential mechanical issues during service, and consistently follows established safety standards and procedures.

Requirements

  • Experience with GPS systems, vehicle electronics, or telematics preferred.
  • Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with vehicle maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to travel extensively, including overnight stays.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to pass a drug screen and background check.

Responsibilities

  • Install GPS tracking devices on fleet vehicles and heavy equipment.
  • Test and verify proper functionality of GPS units post-installation.
  • Diagnose and repair GPS hardware and connectivity issues in the field.
  • Perform firmware updates and system calibrations as needed.
  • Provide technical support and training to field personnel on GPS usage.
  • Perform routine lubrication and preventive maintenance on fleet equipment.
  • Check fluid levels, filters, and grease points on various types of machinery.
  • Maintain accurate service records and logs for all maintenance activities.
  • Identify and report potential mechanical issues during service.
  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with safety standards.
  • Travel to multiple locations across regions to perform on-site service and support.
  • Manage inventory of GPS units, tools, lubricants, and supplies.
  • Communicate effectively with fleet management and operations teams.
