About The Position

Traveling Field Interviewers are responsible for making in-person contact with selected respondents to discuss the study, answer questions, and obtain participation. This role involves collecting confidential information and administering standardized questionnaires. The interviewer will conduct in-home interviews, exam reminder calls, and exam reminder visits, as well as recruit for in-home health exams and dietary phone interviews. The position requires independent management of administrative duties, including participating in conference calls and completing online trainings. Interviewers will approach households without a prior appointment and participate in weekly calls with their Field Supervisor, transmitting data as scheduled. This role also entails assuming full and legal responsibility for the use and care of project-issued equipment, safeguarding participant incentives, issued equipment, or project materials against damage, loss, or theft, and carefully tracking all participant incentives. Additionally, the interviewer must submit timely and accurate Time and Expense reports and attend virtually scheduled meetings with other members of the project team. This position involves standing, walking, and climbing stairs, and transporting equipment and materials such as laptop computers and notebooks weighing 15 pounds or more. It also involves driving for up to 7 hours in a day.

Requirements

  • Must possess High School Diploma or GED
  • Possess effective communication skills through speech and listening
  • Fluency in English through reading, writing, and speaking
  • Ability to read text verbatim from a computer screen (i.e., a laptop and handheld computer) and paper documents
  • Able to work evenings and weekends
  • In order to travel by air, federal law requires individuals have REAL ID or an acceptable alternative. This position may require the successful candidate to travel by air for business reasons. Accordingly, successful candidates must have, or be willing to obtain, a REAL ID, or TSA approved alternative
  • Available for entire training and data collection period
  • Able to successfully complete training
  • Must have a valid US driver's license
  • Comfortable using RTI issued tablet, laptop and other associated equipment
  • Access to password-protected Wi-Fi connection for data transmissions and administrative responsibilities
  • Able to keep project information confidential
  • Willingness to work in various types of weather conditions and after dark

Responsibilities

  • Being available for one 4-week travel trip per quarter and additional 1-3 week travel trips per quarter to recruit and interview survey participants
  • Residing at project selected accommodations during travel trips
  • Willing to commit to work for at least one year
