About The Position

Field Interviewers are responsible for being available for continuous travel 48 weeks per year to recruit and interview study participants across the country. This role requires residing at project-selected accommodations while on travel and committing to work for at least one year. The interviewer will make in-person contact with selected respondents to discuss the study, answer questions, and obtain participation. This includes approaching households without a prior appointment, working and driving after dark, and collecting confidential information by administering standardized questionnaires. Responsibilities also include conducting in-home interviews, exam reminder calls, and exam reminder visits, as well as recruiting for in-person health exams and dietary phone interviews. The role requires administering Spanish exam scripts for in-person examinations, as needed, and independently managing administrative duties such as participating in conference calls, maintaining appointments, and completing online trainings. The interviewer will participate in weekly calls with the Field Supervisor and transmit data as scheduled. They will assume full and legal responsibility for the use and care of project-issued equipment, safeguarding participant incentives, issued equipment, or project materials against damage, loss, or theft. Additionally, they will assume responsibility for and carefully track all participant incentives, submit timely and accurate Time and Expense reports, and attend virtually scheduled meetings with other members of the project team.

Requirements

Must be at least 21 years old at the time of employment
Must possess High School Diploma or GED
Willing to live “on the road” for ~20 continuous weeks (140 days) at a time
Ability to read text verbatim from a computer screen (i.e., a laptop and handheld computer) and paper documents
Possess effective communication skills through speech and listening
Fluency in English and Spanish through reading, writing, and speaking
Available for entire training and data collection period
Able to successfully complete training
Must have a valid driver's license
Comfortable using RTI issued tablet, laptop and other associated equipment
Access to password-protected Wi-Fi connection for data transmissions and administrative responsibilities
Able to keep project information confidential
Willingness to work in various types of weather conditions and after dark
Must have, or be willing to obtain, a REAL ID, or TSA approved alternative for air travel
