Traveler RN - Cardiac Procedural Recovery/Short Stay Unit
About The Position
Sentara Heart Hospital, located on the campus of Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Cardiac Procedural Recovery and Short Stay Unit. This department is located on the 2nd floor, sharing space with Cardiac Cath holding. This is a temporary, full-time, night shift traveler position. The unit runs between 6-8 beds from Monday 11 am through Saturday 11 am. The RN will admit and prepare patients for Cardiac Catheterization (interventional and diagnostic), Electrophysiology procedures such as cardiac ablations, Cardioversions, surgery, and ICDs/Pacemakers. The unit also admits patients post-procedure for overnight observation before discharge the next day. The cardiac short stay unit provides patient care until discharge or admission for further observation. The nurse to patient ratio is 3 or 4 to 1.
Requirements
- Associates, Bachelors, or Masters degree, or diploma in the Nursing Field required.
- Virginia or Compact Multi-State License in good standing.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- ACLS certification required.
- Two or more years of current acute care hospital RN experience.
- Able to confidently read telemetry.
- Must be ACLS and BLS certified.

- >2 years cardiac experience.
- Cardiac experience.
- Comfortable reading telemetry independently.
Responsibilities
- Admit and prepare patients for Cardiac Catheterization (interventional and diagnostic), Electrophysiology procedures such as cardiac ablations, Cardioversions, surgery, and ICDs/Pacemakers.
- Admit patients post-procedure who are being watched overnight and discharged the next day.
- Provide patient care until the patient is discharged or admitted for further observation.
- Monitor patients on telemetry independently.
- Prepare patients for their procedures.
