About The Position

This is a contract position for a Travel Technician responsible for installing and commissioning access control infrastructure at customer locations. The project duration is from September to December, with a schedule of Sunday - Thursday, 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM. Technicians will be expected to travel 100% for the duration of the project. Each installation team will consist of a Licensed/Experienced Electrician and a Low Voltage/Data Technician, working together to install and commission access control infrastructure. The project involves both electrical and low-voltage cabling work to support a new network-based access control system. Work will be performed during scheduled daytime construction/installation windows and will require adherence to site safety requirements, quality standards, and project timelines.

Requirements

  • Commercial electrical installation experience.
  • Experience with EMT conduit installation and routing.
  • Knowledge of electrical code requirements and safety procedures.
  • Ability to work from prints, drawings, and installation documentation.
  • Experience with structured cabling installations.
  • Proficiency terminating and testing CAT5e/CAT6 cabling.
  • Understanding of low-voltage installation best practices.
  • Ability to read floor plans, wiring diagrams, and project documentation.
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts (7 AM - 7 PM).
  • Available Sunday through Thursday throughout project duration.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and work on ladders and lifts as required.
  • Must possess basic hand tools appropriate for their trade.
  • Ability to pass any site-specific background screening or safety requirements.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with access control or security systems preferred.
  • Familiarity with network-based access control systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Installing and terminating high-voltage power circuits to designated power supply locations.
  • Mounting and wiring Altronix power supplies and backup power components.
  • Installing EMT conduit systems, including bends, connectors, couplings, supports, and straps.
  • Installing junction boxes and pull boxes as required by site conditions.
  • Ensuring compliance with NEC, local electrical codes, and customer standards.
  • Verifying proper grounding and power distribution for access control equipment.
  • Coordinating closely with the Data Technician during equipment installation and testing.
  • Performing troubleshooting and corrective actions related to electrical infrastructure.
  • Installation and termination of CAT5e network cable.
  • RJ45 connector termination and cable certification/testing.
  • Mounting and connecting Axis A1210-B Network Door Controllers.
  • Installing and terminating Illuminated NFC Tap Point Assemblies.
  • Labeling, dressing, and organizing structured cabling.
  • Testing network connectivity and device communications.
  • Assisting with controller commissioning and system verification.
  • Maintaining installation quality standards and documentation.
