About The Position

The mission of Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education is to create opportunity for under-resourced youth of the Greater Philadelphia Region to prosper in life. The intended impact is that participating youth will become Snider student-athletes with age-appropriate social-emotional strengths and skills to succeed and contribute as students, employees, and community members. The Travel Ice Hockey Coach position at Snider Hockey is tasked with providing on and off-ice support to students who participate in Snider Hockey’s competitive travel program. S nider Hockey has travel teams at all USA Hockey youth age classifications that participate in the Delaware Valley Hockey League (DVHL), Eastern Junior Elite Prospects League (EJEPL), and Atlantic Girls Hockey Federation (AGHF)." Coaches for travel teams are in charge of ensuring developmental standards are met and making sure that every participant is provided a safe environment to learn a new skill. Candidates must also work to instill Snider Hockey’s core values into their daily work with all students. Coaches are also expected to communicate weekly with families of students on the team to assure maximum attendance at all team events. Ideal candidates would be team players, have a desire to make a difference in the lives of young people, and the ability to effectively teach the game of ice hockey, and have a passion for helping players develop to the next level.

Requirements

  • Candidates must possess significant ice hockey coaching and/or playing experience .
  • All instructors are expected to serve as teachers and role models both on and off the ice, and must, therefore, exhibit maturity and professionalism.
  • Applicants must be reliable and possess both a general willingness to assume any and all jobs and an ability to work in a high profile environment.
  • Attention to detail and strong communication skills are critical.
  • Applicants must be able to commit to a minimum of two one-hour evening practices a week in Philadelphia and weekend games in the tri-state area.
  • Hiring is conditional on the successful completion of a criminal background check; applicants should also either possess or be able to attain the required background clearances and USA Hockey coaching certification.

Responsibilities

  • Foster a supportive learning atmosphere for all Snider Hockey participants.
  • Lead team practices (minimum 2x a week) and weekend games (1-2 a weekend).
  • Ensure the safety of all participants, both on and off the ice.
  • Cooperate and communicate with Snider Hockey staff and volunteers to help deliver a consistently excellent experience for all participants.
  • Promote positive character development of Snider Hockey participants by discussing the importance of education, teamwork, effort, respect, and related values.
  • Assist in the sizing, provision, and distribution of equipment; confirm that all players wear properly fitting equipment on the ice.
