About The Position

Strides Therapy & Educational Services is a leading local provider of contracted therapy services dedicated to enhancing students' educational experience in schools. We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Travel Adaptive Physical Education Teacher to join our team of professionals who work collaboratively to support students. We are a therapist and woman-owned and operated company.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Physical Education, Adapted Physical Education, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Special Education, or a related field.
  • Valid state teaching license with the appropriate Physical Education and/or Adapted Physical Education certification or endorsement.
  • Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, IEP development, and other applicable special education requirements.
  • Experience working with children or adolescents with disabilities in an educational setting.
  • Knowledge of motor development, physical fitness, adapted sports, movement education, and activity modifications.
  • Ability to assess gross motor skills, mobility, balance, coordination, physical fitness, and functional movement.
  • Ability to develop and implement individualized Adapted Physical Education programs and IEP goals.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, behavior-management, organization, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with families, teachers, therapists, administrators, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to complete required background checks, fingerprinting, health screenings, and district onboarding requirements.
  • Ability to travel between school locations when required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct Adapted Physical Education services to students with disabilities in accordance with their IEPs.
  • Assess students' gross motor development, physical fitness, mobility, coordination, balance, strength, endurance, and functional movement.
  • Develop, implement, monitor, and document individualized physical education goals and objectives.
  • Design and deliver adapted instruction that promotes motor development, physical fitness, recreation, independence, and participation.
  • Modify activities, equipment, rules, environments, and instructional strategies to meet students' individual needs.
  • Collaborate with general physical education teachers to support student participation in inclusive settings when appropriate.
  • Monitor student progress, collect data, and prepare evaluations, progress reports, and required special education documentation.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, eligibility meetings, multidisciplinary evaluations, annual reviews, and parent conferences.
  • Collaborate with teachers, families, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and other related service providers.
  • Recommend adaptive equipment, assistive technology, and environmental modifications that promote access, participation, and safety.
  • Monitor students' medical precautions, physical limitations, and health needs during instruction.
  • Maintain student confidentiality and comply with district policies, IDEA, FERPA, and applicable federal and state requirements.
