About The Position

This is a locum tenens opportunity for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant specializing in General Surgery to provide clinical coverage for a Trauma Surgery service. The role involves inpatient care, including rounding on trauma patients, and managing a case mix of trauma, neurosurgery, orthopedic, and general surgery cases. The position is located at a Level II Trauma facility and requires the provider to work independently, performing various procedures under local anesthesia and managing patient care plans. The shift schedule is 3 p.m. to 1 a.m., and the coverage period spans from September 4, 2026, to October 29, 2026, with specific dates outlined. Support staff, including one trauma surgeon on call and another Trauma NP/PA on the day shift, will be available.

Requirements

NCCPA or ANCC Certified (BC)
Active CA License
CA NP Furnishing Number
CA DEA
ACLS certification
ATLS certification
BLS certification
Trauma/Critical Care experience required
Must be actively working at a TJC-accredited hospital
Clean Malpractice/Background

Responsibilities

Take patient history, perform physical exam, make assessment and diagnosis; initiate, review, and revise treatment plans.
Order x-rays, lab studies, therapeutic diets, therapy services, and nursing services.
Initiate arrangements for admissions, complete forms and charts, and provide continuing care services.
Administer medication and transmit prescriptions from supervising physician to lawful furnishers.
Recognize emergencies requiring immediate physician attention and institute life-saving treatment procedures.
Rounding on trauma service patients.
Provide hemostasis.
Insert and remove packing.
Cervical Spine clearance.
Chest tube removal.
Burn Management, partial thickness less than 10%.
