Trauma Surgeon

Skilled Wound Care•Oakland, CA
•Onsite

About The Position

Skilled Wound Care, a premier national physician group, is hiring Trauma Surgeons in Oakland, CA to work as wound care physicians and lead wound care initiatives in skilled nursing facilities across the area. This is a high-impact career without the corporate red tape, offering a refreshing alternative to the demanding lifestyle of traditional trauma surgery. The role provides a no-call, Monday-Friday schedule, allowing for a healthier pace and predictable days, replacing the adrenaline, sleep deprivation, and emotional weight of the trauma bay. Surgeons will have the opportunity to follow patients through healing, build lasting relationships, and exercise clinical autonomy in directing patient outcomes. A custom software is provided to minimize administrative time.

Requirements

  • Medical Degree: MD or DO from an accredited institution
  • Medical License: Unrestricted/clear medical license in the state of practice (or eligibility to obtain one)
  • DEA License: Or eligibility to obtain one
  • Open Background: We welcome Trauma and Acute Care Surgeons and surgeons of all backgrounds, as well as Family Medicine and Internal Medicine physicians.
  • No previous wound care experience is required; we provide comprehensive wound care training

Responsibilities

  • Surgical and sharp debridement and other bedside procedures
  • Evaluation and treatment of chronic, non-healing and complex wounds, including pressure injuries and post-surgical wounds
  • Advanced dressings and specialized wound protocols
  • Collaborative care in skilled nursing facilities and the post-acute setting, where you follow patients through healing

Benefits

  • No nights, no weekends, no 24-hour shifts and no pagers.
  • No overnight trauma activations.
  • This is a true Monday–Friday surgeon job, so your evenings and weekends belong to you and your family.
  • Keep Your Surgical Skills: Surgical debridement and bedside procedures stay part of your daily practice.
  • Predictable days replace the adrenaline, sleep deprivation and emotional weight of the trauma bay.
  • See Patients Heal: Follow patients through healing and build lasting relationships, instead of handing them off once they’re stable.
  • Clinical Autonomy: Direct patient outcomes based on your surgical expertise, not a hospital committee or department hierarchy.
  • Smarter Documentation: Our custom software is designed to slash admin time, so you’re not stuck charting at midnight when you could be home at a reasonable hour.
  • Average Annual Earnings: 200,000–250,000 (no earning cap as an independent contractor)
  • High Achievers: Top performers earn $300,000+ through performance bonuses
  • Pay Structure: Per-patient and per-procedure pay, plus quarterly bonus programs
