About The Position

BayCare Medical Group (BMG) is seeking an experienced Trauma Surgeon to serve as the Trauma Medical Director at St. Joseph’s Hospital – Main. This is a high-volume, academically engaged Level II Trauma Center. The role combines 0.2 FTE protected administrative time for leadership responsibilities with 0.8 FTE for clinical trauma and acute care surgery duties. The ideal candidate will possess demonstrated leadership abilities, a passion for program development, and a commitment to clinical excellence and academic engagement. The position involves leading multidisciplinary trauma committees, serving as the primary physician leader for trauma accreditation, and contributing to continuous program improvement. Clinically, the role is within a busy Emergency and Trauma Department, offering exposure to complex cases. The hospital is a 615-bed tertiary referral center with significant ER visits annually. Responsibilities extend to the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU), with opportunities to influence critical care management and quality initiatives. Academic involvement includes serving as core faculty for a surgical residency program, with active participation in resident education, teaching, and mentoring.

Requirements

Board-certified or board-eligible in General Surgery.
Fellowship training in Surgical Critical Care or Trauma/Acute Care Surgery.
Demonstrated leadership experience and drive to grow and develop an established and high volume Trauma Department.
Demonstrated or strong interest in trauma program leadership.
Strong interest in teaching residents and engaging in academic activity.
Team-oriented, collaborative, and committed to high-quality patient care.

Responsibilities

Lead, optimize, and advance the Trauma Program with 0.2 FTE protected administrative time.
Provide strategic clinical and operational leadership for a high-volume Trauma Department.
Lead multidisciplinary trauma committees and collaborate with hospital and system leadership.
Serve as the primary physician leader for trauma accreditation, readiness, and continuous program improvement.
Perform clinical trauma and acute care surgery duties (0.8 FTE).
Work within a Level II Trauma Center in a busy Emergency and Trauma Department.
Collaborate with experienced trauma and acute care surgeons and Advanced Practice Providers.
Engage in close collaboration with critical care, neurosurgery, orthopedics, vascular surgery, and other key service lines.
Have expanded responsibilities within the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU).
Shape critical care management protocols and participate in quality initiatives.
Serve as core faculty within a surgical residency program.
Contribute to resident education, clinical teaching, procedure supervision, curriculum development, and bedside mentoring.
