Join the MercyOne Family! We are looking to hire a Trauma Registrar! As a Trauma Registrar at MercyOne, you will abstract health information data of reportable trauma patients. Prepare and present statistical data for reports to administration, medical staff and other health agencies. Adhere to MercyOne’s performance expectations and performs all defined services and other related duties in accordance with the mission, vision and values of MercyOne.

Requirements

  • Experience with medical terminology required
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in the healthcare field, working with health information such as operative reports and clinical documentation
  • Strong language skills, with intermediate math and advanced reasoning abilities
  • Proficiency with personal computers, database software, mainframe information systems, spreadsheets, and network systems
  • Strong critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work independently

Responsibilities

  • Abstracts trauma patients, co-morbidities, surgical procedure, complications, outcomes, and follow-up.
  • Abstracts and enters health information into computer database to comply with Iowa Trauma Program requirements and standards.
  • Maintains data programs on computer including appropriate upgrades and back-ups.
  • Prepares and presents statistical reports.
  • Prepares and presents statistical data for reports to administration, medical staff and other health agencies.
  • Completes studies and follow-up requests.
  • Compiles information for annual report.
  • Maintains trauma registry processes including quality control measures.
  • Develops and maintains policies and procedures according to Iowa Trauma System requirements.
  • Performs quality control of health information data abstracted and identifies trends and patterns.
  • Establishes and maintains rapport with physicians, NEIA staff and other health agencies.
  • Serves as a liaison to outside agencies, screening and educational programs.
  • Serves as a liaison to medical staff and ancillary support services
  • Assists with Trauma Program accreditation.
  • Submits data to outside agencies as requested.
  • Assists with coordination and participates in continuing education activities relating to trauma for hospital and out-of-hospital personnel.
  • Produces specialty reports for medical staff meetings and committees.
  • Assists in completing accreditation application.
  • Assists ED Nurse facilitator with trauma services meetings.
  • Adheres to all safety, infection control and employee health policies and procedures.
  • Attends required safety programs.
  • Appropriately and consistently uses the personal protective equipment required of the job.
  • Knows and can demonstrate departmental emergency procedures for fire, disaster and other emergency situations.
  • Reports and removes unsafe equipment/furniture.
  • Asks for assistance when needed to assure safety for all involved.
  • Maintains a safe working environment and practices safe working habits.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.
