About The Position

ChristianaCare, a leading healthcare system in the Mid-Atlantic region, is seeking an experienced Trauma Medical Director to lead Delaware’s sole Level 1 Trauma Center. This position offers the ideal opportunity to lead a highly skilled and experienced team of 13 board certified surgeons and 16 advanced practice clinicians who are committed to advancing the field of trauma surgery. Partner with executive and clinical leadership to advance excellence in trauma prevention, acute care services, research, and education throughout the healthcare system. Contribute to student education and surgical resident training through our ACGME-accredited General Surgery Residency. Deliver clinical and strategic leadership ensuring quality, innovation, collaboration and growth within the trauma program. Provide medical direction for the program, including coordination of medical services across specialties and supervision of all services performed within trauma surgery.

Requirements

  • BC/BE General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care
  • Must have the ability to be licensed in the State of Delaware and meet credentialing requirements
  • Minimum of experience of 3-5 years of experience strongly preferred
  • The ideal candidate will have proven people leadership experience

Responsibilities

  • Develop, evaluate, and implement trauma care and treatment protocols to ensure compliance with state and hospital accreditation regulations
  • Contribute to trauma research and publications
  • Build partnerships with referring physicians, emergency medical services, and community stakeholders
  • Lead the trauma service line in the delivery of evidence-based, patient-centered care
  • Contribute to medical student, resident, and post-graduate teaching.
  • Develop and document a plan of care for each patient, including a complete medical history that includes essential and accurate information, a physical examination, diagnosis of the causes of injuries and illnesses, appropriate treatment and/or referral, and hospital visitations when necessary.
  • Make informed diagnostic and therapeutic decisions based on patient information, current scientific evidence, clinical judgment, and patient preference.
  • Adhere to and abide by established policies, procedures, objectives, quality improvement initiatives, safety, environmental and infection control.
