Trauma Manager - Trauma Department - Full Time
About The Position
The Trauma Manager will be responsible for coordinating, developing, and maintaining policies, procedures, and protocols for the management of trauma patients. This role ensures compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements, oversees staff development and continuing education related to the trauma program, and coordinates a quality assurance process for continuous improvement. The manager will provide administrative support to the physician leader, demonstrate accountability, facilitate interdisciplinary communication, and collaborate to optimize patient outcomes. This leadership position involves managing trauma programs and initiatives, maintaining a trauma registry, supporting staff through change, developing community relationships for trauma prevention, attending peer review meetings, acting as a liaison with EMS, and coordinating preparation for accreditation visits.
Requirements
- Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program with current PA licensure.
- Minimum three years clinical experience in an Emergency Department, Trauma Center, EMS agency, or related healthcare setting.
- Must possess current license as a registered nurse in the State of Pennsylvania.
- BLS and ACLS certified required (or obtain within one month of hire).
Nice To Haves
- Arrhythmia Classes, TNCC, CEN, or CCRN preferred.
- Must participate in the STN-TOPIC Course or STN-Rural TOPIC Course within one year of appointment.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate, develop, and maintain policies, procedures, and protocols for the management of trauma patients.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements related to trauma services.
- Oversee and assist with staff development, annual continuing education for acute inpatient units, emergency department, and critical care services as related to all components of the trauma program.
- Coordinate a quality assurance process that reviews the management of trauma patients on a continuous basis and implements appropriate improvements in the clinical or administrative processes as needed.
- Provide administrative support to the physician leader of the trauma program to develop a quality improvement program and assure that standards are met.
- Demonstrate responsibility, accountability, and authority.
- Facilitate timely and accurate communication among members of interdisciplinary team.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to optimize patient outcomes and patient quality.
- Serve as a leader in clinical nursing practice, identifying patient and staff focused opportunities for improvement and leading the change process.
- Develop, implement, and manage trauma programs and initiatives.
- Maintain a trauma registry and database for outcome measures.
- Identify, educate, and support the psychological and learning needs of staff during change and transition.
- Develop positive relationship with community and engage in trauma prevention programs.
- Attend multidisciplinary Peer Review Meetings and Multidisciplinary Trauma Program Operational Meetings.
- Act as a liaison with the local Emergency Medical System (EMS) in facilitating communication, education, and outreach with EMS.
- Coordinates preparation and planning for PTSF accreditation visits and assures readiness for successful survey.
